As expected, quite a few readers weigh in on the choice between John McCain and J.D. Hayworth in the Arizona Senate primary. From a reader in Phoenix: Romney could have just stayed out of the primary contest all together.

My correspondent “Number Cruncher” assesses the Suffolk poll: Not much to report here. The poll results were all within acceptable ranges (as you reported today)*. The one area you didn’t check are the age splits. Which in my view were perfect: 18-44 year olds represent 30% of the voters, 44 and up – 70%. This is precisely the voting turn out history of Massachusetts. Coakley is in BIG trouble! Most of my polling analysis (using adjustments) have shown her at a tie or up 1.

Wow. It was just last week that this pollster wrote about my belief that President Obama’s approval ratings would drop to somewhere in the mid-40 percentiles by early next year

If you thought the results in Missouri below were surprising, take a look at Virginia, a state Obama carried last year: SurveyUSA puts Obama at 37 percent approval, 60 percent disapproval. He splits 39-58 among independents, and 33-64 among voters ages 18 to 34. UPDATE: More surprises from this pollster: In Washington state , Obama’s approval/disapproval splits evenly, 48 percent to 48 percent; and evenly in Oregon , 47 percent to 47 percent

By Byron York, Washington Examiner The Democratic National Committee is sending around links to a new article, “Obama’s Brilliant First Year,” by Jacob Weisberg, of Slate and Newsweek. Weisberg argues that if Barack Obama manages to pass a national health care bill by January 20, 2010, the first anniversary of his inauguration, he will have “accomplished more than any other postwar American president at a comparable point in his presidency.” While Weisberg — who last made a splash by amplifying White House attacks on Fox News — gives Obama credit for other accomplishments, like the stimulus and putting America “on a new footing with the rest of the world,” he suggests that the success of Obama’s first year depends greatly on the passage of health care legislation. And while some advocates of the Democratic bills currently under consideration have tried to downplay the enormity of the changes the legislation would bring, Weisberg is entirely open about Obama’s goal of nationalizing health care, expanding government, and undermining the legacy of Ronald Reagan

Some pretty surprising New Jersey numbers coming from Public Policy Polling, considering that they, and almost every other pollster, show the governor’s race neck and neck: Barack Obama’s approval rating with likely voters for New Jersey’s Gubernatorial election this fall comes down at 46% this month.
