President Barack Obama has invited republicans to the White house to participate in a televised discussion on health care reform. Obama said in an interview with CBS News anchor Katie Couric on Sunday: “I want to ask them to put their ideas on the table, and then after the recess, which will be a few weeks away, I want to come back and have a large meeting, the Republicans and Democrats, to go through systematically all the best ideas that are out there and move it forward” Is his proposal an attempt to reach across party lines and come together with republicans to form a bipartisan solution to health care reform? Certainly not, if Obama wanted a bipartisan solution to health care he could have attempted this months before the democrats lost their super majority in the senate.
